Funny they would ask about independence on Cinco De Mayo; it's not independence day for Mexico, it just commemorates the day they kicked France's ass.

But I'm all about an excuse to drink margaritas :)

AND... My ancestors were in Texas and California before they were admitted to the union, so "technically" I'm Mexican ;)

I have to admit to being a bit vague about Cinco De Mayo, I thought it was something to do with Argentina.

it commemorates the victory over the French at the Battle of Pueblo in 1862.

It's not widely celebrated in Mexico outside of that area, but like St Patrick's Day, it's a drinking holiday in the US.

Mexico gained their independence from Spain on September 16th, 1810
