The Logical Thing to Do.

I haven't written anything for a very long time, years in fact. It seems that the new Star Trek movie is inspiring a lot of people to make an attempt, including myself.
The following (very) short story presented itself to my brain and wouldn't go away. As it takes place some time after the events in Star Trek XI spoilers are to be expected.
The destruction of Vulcan was a few years in the past. Sarek had taken on the role of ambassador to the far flung surviving Vulcan colonies. He was about to board the Enterprise on a visit to one of them.
On this occasion Sarek would be joined by his new bride. It was only to be expected that Sarek would take another partner. He was still young, in Vulcan years, and still experiencing Pon Farr. To find another was only logical.
Kirk joined Spock at the entrance to the shuttlecraft bay. He was in his dress uniform as befitted the occasion. McCoy followed shortly, muttering under his breath at the tightness of the collar. An honour guard stood ready.
“How does that Vulcan salute go?” McCoy asked Spock.
Spock demonstrated as the doors opened to reveal the shuttle's passengers disembarking.
“That hurts worse than the uniform!”
Sarek stepped out of the shuttlecraft followed by a smaller figure, hooded in a Vulcan travel cloak. Kirk strode up to greet him.
“New Vulcan honours us with your presence,” he said.
“We come to serve,” replied Sarek.
He turned, extending his first two fingers to the woman behind him.
“May I present she who is my wife.”
The woman threw back her hood revealing blonde hair, touched her fingers to those of Sarek, and smiled at Kirk.
“Jim”, she said.
“Mother!” said Kirk.
“Father!” said Spock.
“Sons,” said Sarek.
