Spring in the city

The sun is streaming in the windows, the sky is blue, and across the road the pear tree is beginning to flower. Soon it will be joined by the hawthorn and then the elder. The gorse is beginning to flower in abundance and the larch is turning green. And all of this is in the city. I wonder how many of my neighbours notice this?
They may have seen the occasional fox trotting across the road and heard their barks at night, but how many of them spotted the vixen and cub playing on the riverbank as I did several years ago?
We live among the natural world, even while we are in the city.
