Home now after some very shocking news. They are making 2 of my team redundant but they're not going to tell us who until tomorrow! The axe is hanging over me so it's time to fire up the cv and get the search ramped up.

I don't see why they couldn't have just told us there and then. They must know who it is. I'm currently looking at jobsites, I can't be out of work so I will consider temp as well. It's not a good time of year as any new jobs aren't really going to start until the New Year.

We all went home, my team and another one who had similar news. I would have preferred that they told us then and there. I'm not sure how well I'll sleep tonight, but I can only wish the same on those doing the choosing.

that sounds a bit short of a full consuktation period to me. don't you work for quite a big company?

Just querying legalities. I may be not up to speed as have been stuck in house move but did you have an at risk letter?

They gave us all the at risk letter today and said they would tell us tomorrow who they had selected. Then they said something about reconvening a week later.

I don't know what to expect. If they'll give me a week's pay or a month's pay. I've been there over 18 months. I CANNOT be unemployed or I will be screwed so at this point I am looking to see what temp jobs as well as permanent ones are out there.

If you've not been there for 18 months, you're probably not entitled to redundancy pay, although they might well offer something.

you should get notice or pay in lieu of notice as well as redundancy so if your contract says a week/month notice you will get that plus redundancy.

how many staff do they have overall?

are they laying off more than 20 across the company?
