Weekend stuff

I don't know how I managed it but suddenly it was 1.30am and I was still reading last night, having watched the Da Vinci Code from last weekend (Awful film! Awful book!), faffed about on the internet, and generally chilled out. I did the boring things you have to do, such as food shopping in Asda and pouring drain unblocker down the bathroom plugholes, but I still managed to fit in another viewing of Star Trek. And it's still a stonkingly good film!

I went out to a get together in a city centre pub on Friday night. It was the anniversary of the organiser of the Cinema Meetup group (http://www.meetup.com/Glasgow-Film-Fans/) so we went to Revolution and had a good evening out. However, I noticed on my way home from Star Trek yesterday that the pub was closed with a police cordon around it so something has happened but as yet I've not found out what. Just as well we went there on Friday.

Today I woke at 7.00am (despite being awake so late), snoozed till 8.00am and then got up to do another round of boring house-related stuff. I had to go to the laundrette so took along the novel of the Star Trek film and devoured a few chapters there. It's fun and fills in some of the gaps they couldn't deal with in the film, such as the identity of the boy walking along the road, and a few other things besides.

My intention for the afternoon was to take my camera out but the sun seems to have gone into hiding. Never mind, a walk will do me good. I'm eating houmous and pitta bread for lunch just now. Once I finish I'll get my stuff together and head out. Who knows, I may end up watching Star Trek again. Just as well I have a Cineworld Unlimited card, it's certainly paying for itself this month!

Kirk calls the other kid John, I seem to recall. So who is he?

ps. My Cineworld card is hot enough to melt. 36 movies so far this year, plus two re-visits (Watchmen and Star Trek).

According to the book he's Kirk's older brother. In the original series he gets called George as well as Sam by Kirk. Maybe Kirk has a mental block on what his brother's name is!

Actually, George could sound like John. I guess we'll need to wait for the DVD to work out what was said.

He was George Samuel Kirk, I believe, but wasn't he Kirk's younger brother? If so, this kid would be Kirk's step-brother. (Need to go check my Star Trek encyclopedia...)

I've looked on Memory Alpha http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/George_Samuel_Kirk It doesn't say if he was older or younger but I'm sure he was older than him.
