Tell it to the Marines!

I still get stuff popping into my inbox from job websites as a legacy from when I was job hunting. Sometime I take a look just to see if there's something that might be of interest. Today's offering from Monster, though, was a bit.....odd.

Does the Royal Navy really need me? Do they have callcentres onboard their ships doing outbound calling on IT and telecoms kit? Will the next major sea battle be between the Royal Navy telemarketing department and a pirate outfit offering fake Dell and HP laptops? Will we see the Royal Navy telemarketers parading at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, headsets ready to go?

I know I used to sell Phasers http://www.xerox.com/index/engb.html but I'm all at sea with this one.

It probably came about because their system picked up a few buzz words in my CV and somehow decided the Navy was for me!

actually if you check out those recruiting adverts for the Navy and RAF they do say that there are "many careers" available - including, for example, telephonists.

HMS Call Centre in action...

...Press 3 to request an air strike. Press 4 to request evacuation of casualties. Press 5 to report the sighting of an enemy submarine. Press 6 to report that you are abandoning ship. For permission to launch nuclear-tipped Tomahawk missiles please hold for an operator. All our operators are busy at the moment. Your call is important to us...

They saw you as a vulcan, thought "she looks good in uniform" and now they just want you as a poster girl.

Maybe they need someone to contact those long boats they keep sighting off the Irish coast? BTW, are they hiring where you work? I wanna move to Scotland. I need a job so I can move.

It depends what sort of work you are looking for. Some places are taking on staff, others are losing them. We sell telecoms into companies and as we have a package designed to save them money we're doing not too badly but even so we're noticing cutbacks in companies' spending.

Really looking for some type of customer service. I can to tech support but would have to do some boning up but can also do sales if required. At this point, the only thing holding me back is "can I tolerate the weather there?"
