Yesterday in Borders

Yesterday in Borders I saw someone who had once been a friend, someone who I had lost contact with about the time of my husband leaving. He was a science fiction fan when I first knew him but in the years that have gone by things seem to have changed. I had heard he had got religious but I didn't realise just how religious until I saw him in Borders with a stonking big wooden cross hanging around his neck!

I would have gone and said hello but the cross really put me off. I don't think he would have all too appreciative of the pentagram hanging round my neck and I really have no time for people who try to convert you. I think I was quite shocked really. He never seemed the type to do that sort of thing and I can't help wondering what the hell happened?

He lost heart and surrendered to fear. Ignorance is bliss, and people who are afraid will surrender to anything, however nonsensical, stupid, hateful, or absurd, to find a sense of "certainty" in an uncertain world. They will also sacrifice good sense for acceptance. This world has a way of seperating the people who live according to what is right, from those who live according to what is easy.
