Moving on a pace
Nov. 28th, 2009 04:55 pmThis time last week I had no idea that I needed to look for a new job. I had updated my CV in the summer as I felt things were beginning to take an unpleasant turn and so I was having a wee look to see what was out there. However I really didn't expect things to turn as sour as they did this week. Especially when the team had been called together on Friday 13th to be told that they weren't planning to outsource our telemarketing work, that the consultants from a telemarketing company they had called in were there to make suggestions for training to improve things, not to take the work away. So when we were called into a meeting on Wednesday the redundancies came out of the blue. Makes you wonder if they know the meaning of forward planning. The person reassuring us that he had no plans to move the work elsewhere must surely have known he planned to make some of us redundant a week and half later or do they merely stumble along from one week to the next?
In any case, it's done and I have to deal with it. I can sit on my arse and moan about being hard done by or I can get out there and get another job. So, looking for another job is what I am doing. I have four interviews lined up for next week so far. I was on a recce this afternoon, checking out the location of one of them so that I won't have any difficulty finding them on interview day.
I'm not pleased at the way things have gone. I think it could have been handled so much better but getting another job is the best revenge. That, and arranging for orcs to poke them with pointy sticks.
