Dreich day
Sep. 5th, 2009 03:23 pmAs I am writing this post it should be obvious that I'm not being a Viking at Largs today. I was fully intending to go until I began developing a bit of a cold on Thursday afternoon. I could feel it working on me, dry throat, sinusitis, temperature, generally feeling blah! I decided to see how it went and then decide, but on Friday staying put seemed sensible. I didn't set foot outside all day yesterday.
It's rather annoying that I had booked Friday and Monday off since the beginning of the year only to fall at the final hurdle. Going a-Viking in the wet, muddy conditions at Kelburn castle and at the Pencil while feeling this way would have been no fun. There's always next year.
So after faffing about in the house yesterday I had to go to Asda to get some food shopping done. That went fairly smoothly despite the Tartan Army swarming to Hampden for some football match. However, as I'm going out later I guess I might end up running into them as they leave. I can only hope they're in a good mood.
I bumped into Ed Buckley on the bus on my way back. He'll be at Trout this Thursday, as will I.
I'm going out to have some cocktails with friends, something I thought I would miss out on as I was going to be in Largs, but it seems a good thing to do on such a dreich, miserable day as this. It's grey and wet. This time last year we had a really good day at Largs for the main battle, even although we'd had a bit of stormy weather the night before. It's different this time round. I can only hope the sun returns as I don't want it to be winter already.
