Happy Beltane to all who celebrate it!

I have an urge to watch "Wickerman" - the original version in the director's cut, none of your nasty Nicholas Cage stuff! However, I ought to be getting some sleep. I have the Paisley Beer Festival on Friday, not to mention assorted rituals to attend over the weekend.

I have taken a step which I have long tried to avoid. I have bought a set of scales. Scales, as in the kind you stand on, not kitchen scales. Moreover, these are the kind which give you some idea of your body fat composition as well.

Why? Well I stumbled across a website (http://caloriecount.about.com/) where I could keep a log of my food intake and exercise (or the lack of). Over the past few days the process of recording what I eat has given me food for thought. I realise I have reached a liminal point where I either continue to become further overweight and unfit or I take a stand and begin to fight back.

I have long resisted getting scales as I can't be bothered with the kind of thing I hear almost every day from skinnymalinks fretting over losing minuscule amounts of weight. For similar reasons I have no wish to attend Weightwatchers classes. While they may be good for a lot of people I found them to be irritating. I am not stupid and have no need to be talked down to. Nor do I need to be lectured on how to be assertive in restaurants over food issues. As a vegetarian I think I am well versed in doing so and, in any case, I used to run Assertiveness Training courses when I worked in social work!

Using the website may be a geeky thing to do but I guess it suits me as I am rapidly discovering that I appear to be some kind of geek. I can also now be more involved in [livejournal.com profile] fat_fangirls.

Having said all this, I am going to the Paisley Beer Festival today to make a complete mess of any hopes of having a sensible calorie intake today! But it's only on once a year - that's my excuse, and in any case you need to have a little fun every now and then.

This is an experimental post on Dreamwidth to see if it crosses over to the Other Side, or Livejournal, as it is more commonly known. I had thought that the crossposting thing worked in the same way as the one which notifies Facebook when you post on LJ but that doesn't appear to be the case.

It's Beltane and I've been out at the Paisley Beer Festival but it's time to remember Frank and the legacy of raising a glass to life!

So to Frank and all we have lost since last Beltane. Blessed be! Merry meet and merry part and merry meet again!
