I woke up, went into the kitchen to put on the coffee and wondered why the floor seemed wet. Had I spilled something? Then I realised that there was a drip dripping from the ceiling at a slow steady rate. The flat upstairs has its bathroom above our kitchen so it would seem that something up there was leaking. I got dressed, woke [livejournal.com profile] tanngrisnir, and headed upstairs to knock on the neighbour's door. It took a few attempts but eventually they came to the door, still fairly groggy (well it was about 6.15am). When I told them of the problem she didn't seem at all concerned and tried to tell me that it was from the roof and nothing to do with her. I insisted it was and she said something about looking at it. The guy seemed a bit more with it and looked about. However, as they couldn't find anything obvious it must be under their floor and they will need to get a plumber. They don't appear to have a stopcock in their flat so we have had to turn off the water to the whole building.

I had to knock on their door several times while we were doing all of this and the last time I did so was to tell her the drip was easing off once we had switched off the water so they would have to call a plumber. She then said she would, said "don't knock on my door again" and slammed it in my face! So I knocked again (of course) and the guy answered it. He told me she had just buried her mother, which is fair enough. I didn't know that but anyway life has to go on. The dead don't care about leaky plumbing and it's my kitchen that's getting wet!

I will have to be going to work soon so [livejournal.com profile] tanngrisnir will have to let me know what happens. It can't be a big job as it wasn't dripping last night so hopefully it will be easy to fix.
